SUMMARY OF DCSA FACILITIES USE AND CLASS FEES

While 2 specific types of printable
registrations forms are available on this web site. DCSA does not accept electronic
payments or reservations.
* REQUIRED OF ALL FIRST-TIME PARTICIPANTS
|
Pending class at DCSA or written proof of an approved class by a
certified instructor elsewhere. DCSA facilities safety orientation
checklist, membership application/liability release and class paperwork
requires approx. 1 hour, typically at beginning of all classes
(be on time!). Fee includes use of specific DCSA training and/or testing
areas for initial use only. Orientation for new Personal Protection
Associate Members (CHL, LEO, FFDO) and for new Recreational
Shooter Associate Members (NRA class students or Hunter Ed. class students)
varies slightly, but the required fee is the same for all first time
participants: $30 +

taking a class or getting a Freedom Plan. Exceptions: (1)
Those who have completed the orientation and paid fee as a part of a class at DCSA within the past 12 months
or (2) Those
who have an active Freedom Plan or one that has not lapsed for more than one
year (expiration date indicated on membership card).
STANDARD CLASSES

Texas Department of Public Safety Concealed Handgun License (CHL).
Minimum 10 Hour Course for Original License Certification. Typical course length
under current DCSA lesson plan: approx. 11½ hours. 50-round "practice
run" and 50-round shooting test on separate day than class: add
$40.00 to $90 price shown at right. See "CHL Home
Study +P" page for many more details on
"hybrid" option for beginners. Private class (1 or 2
experienced students) option: $400.00 |

Outdoor Life Hunter Education Home Study Course Packet.
Texas Parks and Wildlife's contract for production of the Outdoor Life
packets expired and will likely eventually be replaced entirely by the
"internet study" option. At the time of revision to this page
(07-12-07), the packets were still available via mail order through TP&W's
office. DCSA sometimes stocks the home study packets and has available
at manufacturer's suggested retail price during "open house"
periods only. |

Texas Parks & Wildlife Hunter Education Home Study Course
Testing and Certification. 5 intense hours. Often removed from web
site after 8
students pre-register. During decent weather, possibly a few more
students (willing to attend approx. one hour more than the first eight)
accepted in certain classes. Open House attendance is recommended for
anyone seeking "stand by" status or possible slot #9, 10 or
above during busy seasons. Be sure to read the the text in TOP BOX ABOVE & ALL
specified "home study" web pages. |

FREEDOM PLAN OPTIONS

In conjunction with "required reading" pages on this web site
and orientation (see top box above), subsequent on-site walk-through
and paperwork requires about another one-half hour (often
recommended during Open House periods). Options available to add other family members, depending on total # of "position hours"
desired (rounded up to nearest hour each visit). Pricing includes Self
Defense insurance for first CHL holder. See Freedom
Plan pages for details. |
